Clouds are massive. They may not look like it all the time, in fact, they often look wispy and fluffy. But if you combined all the water droplets that make up a cloud and tried to hold them up, you’d inevitably fail. You’d be flattened. It would weigh over a million pounds, potentially.

As a nerd, I often find these sorts of analogies to interpret feelings I have about big situations. Right now, we’re in the middle of a big situation. The politics and economy of our country feel considerably unstable. For people like me, who talk to a dozen clients a week or more, it often feels like there’s a heavy cloud hanging over everyone’s head. Every conversation I have carries a massive weight.

I’m sure you can feel it too. The general sense of unease or dread that creeps in when you’re sitting with your thoughts is powerful. If this happens occassionally, that’s normal. Or it’s at least normal for now. If it’s happening too frequently, you should do something about that. If you feel paralyzed on a daily basis, even though your individual realm has not been affected by the onslaught, then it’s worth finding someone or something that helps you.

A Solution for Heavy Clouds

I am a huge proponent for therapy. It’s impossible to calculate the return-on-investment from it, but I’ve generally found that the moments in time where you need it give it a worth that’s incalculable. How do you calculate the difference between you living in a good situation and not? What’s the difference between clear skies and a heavy cloud? I guess we would start with the difference between you getting promoted at your job and staying stagnant. Or worse, the difference between your business declining and growing. Even more important, what about the difference between you being content and being distraught?

I used a therapist when I went through my divorce. She helped me keep my business and life together while I dealt with a swirling of feelings in my mind that could have sent me down any number of paths. I can definitely attribute part of my last few years of growth to her work. My therapist helped me clear out my heavy cloud.

So why am I making a post about therapy? As a life planner, I will always recommend anything that I feel moves my clients toward the life they want. It’s hard to live that life when you feel doom and gloom. So therapy may be money well spent. You may see more than one heavy cloud. There may be more on the horizon.

So if you feel you have too heavy a cloud over you, reach out to a therapist. They can help take that crushing burden off of your shoulders. If you just feeling like you need a plan, reach out to someone like me.
