January’s Firm Update

I have made it a habit to send a newsletter to clients every two months this year, and I’m trying to keep it going. In order to be better about sharing more and more often, you’ll receive these two months behind if you’re not a client. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a client, book an appointment.

New Year Updates / Tax Information

I hope you’re doing very well as the year is starting up. I have a fun life update to share, I have a few end of year updates, and Altruist sent out some information about their tax deadlines and administrative fees for next year (relevant to clients with investment accounts with me.)

Personal Update: Last year was a big year for me in a lot of ways. The biggest is that I got married!

The day was wonderful and I am eternally grateful for your support in making this happen. As a client, you have helped me achieve a lot of my goals and dreams over the last few years. Thank you!

I also released Achieving Accumulation: A Gamer’s Guide to Money Level 2. The book is a guide to getting your basic finances organized and starting to save. Look out for the Investing book I’m currently working on at some point in the first half of this year!

For clients with no investment accounts with me, that’s where this email ends. Just a few personal and professional life updates. For clients who have an investment account with Altruist, please read the updates below.

2026 Updates for Altruist Clients:

Altruist Tax Forms, Incidental Fee Changes at Altruist, and Mailing Address Update:

Tax documents timeline

  • 1099-Consolidated Forms: These include 1099-DIV, 1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-OID, and 1099-MISC. Forms will be released to your clients in their Altruist Client Portal in three waves based on the complexity of your client’s financial portfolio:
    • Wave 1: On January 31
    • Wave 2: On February 16
    • Wave 3: On March 16
  • Correction runs: Starting March 17, corrections will be processed bi-weekly as needed. Clients with Mutual Funds, REITs, REMIC securities, or WHFITs may experience income reclassification, which could result in amended forms. This could affect their tax filings and deadlines.

Helpful tips

1. Client portal access
Tax forms can be found by selecting Documents from the menu in the top-right corner of their client portal. Within the document table, you can use the Tax Documents Type filter to easily locate your forms.

 2. Update communication information
Ensure all your email addresses are current.

 3. TurboTax integration
You can seamlessly import your Consolidated 1099 information into TurboTax by using the docID on their tax forms.

 4. Email notifications
Tax documents for electronic delivery will be sent from AltruistFinancialLLC@investordocuments.com. Whitelist this email address to avoid missing notifications.

Adjustments to Fees:

Fee schedule changes effective March 9, 2026.

Paper document fees effective February 1, 2026.

Starting in February, we’ll also begin collecting fees for paper statements, tax documents, and trade confirmations. While these fees have always been part of our standard agreement, we haven’t applied them in the past, but will begin doing so moving forward. The first charges will appear in early March, billed monthly in arrears.

What this means:

$5 per mailed account statement
$5 per mailed tax document
$3 per mailed trade confirmation
